This year sure did start off on a high note. We had a great eve spent with some neighbors as well as our good friends Chris and Molly, and actually didn’t even wake up feeling too bad! We took it pretty easy for most of the day, and ended up scooting over to McDonald’s for lunch. On the way back, we were treated to something truly special. We have a giant tree in our neighborhood (the ONLY giant tree in our neighborhood), and from time to time a special visitor decides to perch up there and survey the surroundings. Today was one of those days…for as we drove by on the way home, sure enough on the top-most branch was a massive bald eagle!! Cars were pulling over and people were walking from their homes with cameras. We decided to drive home and pick up our cameras and head back. Luckily he was still there. We got some good pics and headed back home. Problem was, Cameron didn’t get to take any with his new camera – so Gramps, Jen, Ellie, Cameron and I decided to walk back and try to get some more pics. Good thing we did!
We knew he was still sitting there, because you could see him sitting on the branch from our house. By the time we got back to the tree, we were the only ones left. We sat for a while watching him and taking more pictures. Just about when we decided to leave – so did he. We saw him lurch off the branch and zoom into the air. He was gone in a matter of seconds, but we managed to get some amazing pictures. It’s hard to describe the rush of being so close to something so magical. As you can see, the pictures are gorgeous, but not to be outdone, Cameron snapped a couple pictures on his new camera that give mine a run for their money! We are so proud of him, and he has printed out the pictures and carried them with him wherever we have gone the past couple days. A future photographer?

That is totally wicked!!!
Agreed. I cannot believe how massive these birds are! Thanks for the comment.
Wow, those are really amazing pictures. I have never seen an eagle in the wild so close up. Are some of the pics on the blog taken by Cam? Also, thanks for the mention in the blog! We had a fun time with you guys that night:)
I should have been a little more specific when I put the pics up…the bottom two were taken by Cameron. (If you hover over them, I have added mouse-over descriptions to help)
We were so lucky to be able to see the eagle. It is something I have never experienced. We have talked about it so much and also about how proud Cameron was. Your pictures are fantastic Matt. Just one of many wonderful memories.
