So I didn’t really plan on posting anything today, but all day I constantly find myself drifting back to one subject: Music. You see, it all started when I stumbled on this article during my morning ‘web-coffee’. It seems Apple has released a new version of it’s popular iPod shuffle (pictured above). I know, I know…Apple releases a new iPod every few months, so what’s the big deal with this one? Get this:
- It has no buttons
- It is smaller than a AA battery
- It can hold and play over 1000 songs (equivalent to over 80 CD’s)
- Hmmm…one more thing…oh yeah……..it talks!
Honestly, this is just unbelievable. Even to me, who has owned an iPod ever since the third generation came out, which was just over 5 years ago. And since that magical first purchase, I have owned a whopping total of TEN iPods. Honestly, where will this stop? I have already come to the realization that my kiddos will not have a clue what a ‘record’ is…and ‘cassettes’? – forget about it. But I am amazed that it looks as if CJ will have absolutely no idea what a ‘CD’ is by the time he’s old enough to listen to some tunes.
I still remember sitting in my room playing my 45′s – and I remember when I started building my tape collection. I even remember my first CD purchase like it was yesterday. It seems strange that my children will have nothing to actually hold in their hands when it comes to music. It will all be stored on a computer and loaded onto a device (that by the time they’re 14 will probably be the size of a dime). And by the time CJ is driving, they will probably have invented a way to physically implant the music in your brain.
I got a chuckle when I was watching the demo for the new iPod, as it reminded me of a video I saw a couple years ago. Keep in mind, this video was made in 2005. It’s pretty humorous to see they weren’t far off. Who knows…maybe the iPod flea will be the next generation:
Well, to sum up, let me just say that I absolutely LOVE digital music…and have amassed a collection of over 3500 albums (40,000+ songs). I can’t even begin to imagine how I would transport that around if it were on CD. Thankfully through the miracle of technology – it all fits in the palm of my hand.
Amazing.
So…is it .mp3, 8-Track, LP? WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE FORMAT FOR LISTENING TO MUSIC?
“It seems strange that my children will have nothing to actually hold in their hands when it comes to music.”
That may be true unless the RIAA gets their way and then your kids can have a subpoena in their hands when it comes to music.
I heard you have to shake the new ipod to switch songs, can you go backwards? What happens if you run?
“…your kids can have a subpoena in their hands when it comes to music.”
Now that’s a scary thought.
Thankfully I have obtained all of my music without bending or breaking the law. Now if you’ll excuse me, I think my latest batch of newsgroup downloads is finishing up.
I’m just archiving the music for the music companies.
Exactly!
