Today…I’m a Student. Again.

Today…I’m a Student. Again.

It’s hard to believe that at the ripe old age of 34, I am going back to school.  Today!  That’s right – today is my first day at the University of Phoenix…and while I’m extremely excited – I’m also extremely nervous.  Let me just say that it’s a LOT different heading to college at 34 than it was at 19.  A LOT DIFFERENT.

I’m not necessarily nervous about having the skills to accomplish what is asked of me in class…rather I’m nervous about actually sticking to a ‘self-paced’ program.  Although, the registration/financial/orientation process was quite detailed and time consuming…and I was able to stick to that – so that’s a good sign.

Being excited about going ‘back to school’ thing got me thinking about when I was a youngin’ and got excited about going back to Elementary school each year.  I still remember getting the school supply list and heading out with my mom and brother to the local Skaags (wow that’s a bad name) or Osco Drug (not much better) to pick up all the supplies I would need.  The aisle was always packed with kids…looking for just the right lunchbox/thermos combo…or trying to grab the last set of NFL Football pencils.  Sadly, the only thing on my list this year is a MacBook - and I DON’T see my mom taking me down to the local Apple store to pick one up.

Or do I?  ;)

Anyway, I wanted to thank everyone for their support over the past month or so…and while I won’t update much on my progress here on this site…I will keep my blog at mattthat.com updated from time to time.

Also – hooray for me that I can add the term ‘student’ to my already impressive resume of ‘husband/father/brother/son/engineer’!!  Yeehaw!

TTFN,
Matthew

  1. Mom (a.k.a. Grandma)

Mom would love to take you to the Apple Store…not saying I will, but I would love too. I remember trying to decide on the color of the Trapper Keeper (think that was it’s name) and then having you get to school and finding out you weren’t “allowed” to use them!!!!
Very proud of you and excited for you. Best of Luck. Love, Mom

Have fun with this new experience! You will do great!

  3. I am so proud of you! (And a little jealous that you have been able to get your school work done in such a timely manner…I am usually up until the wee hours of the night to finish mine…as you know.)

It sure is going to be different for me to be done with school, and you starting. I can’t wait until we are both done! Have I said how proud I am of you? I love you, and once again…so proud. :)
