The Perfect Vacation

The Perfect Vacation

Looking at the pictures from our amazing vacation to Michigan feels as if it took place months ago – but alas, it has been less than two weeks  since we were watching our kiddos play on the beach, while sipping a glass of wine watching a sunset like the one above.  After 30 years of visiting our cottage, I have come to the conclusion that it is (almost) literally impossible to put into words just how perfect the place is.  For our family, it is THE highlight of the year.  EVERY year.  Come on in and see some more pics and stories…

So I thought I might go about this post different than I have before.  Rather than droll on for paragraphs and paragraphs like years past, I thought I would keep it fairly brief this year.  After all – it’s not like we are re-inventing the wheel each time we visit the cottage!  The beauty of this vacation is relaxing and immersing ourselves in history and tradition that doesn’t feel as if it has to change from year to year.  Basically, everything that was unbelievably fantastic last year, we did again this year.  I absolutely love how thick and vivid the memories are, because it comes in handy when I need to escape the ‘blah’ that is the ol’ ’9-to-5′.  Whether it was wine tasting at a dozen wineries (including our favorite, L. Mawby!), or enjoying priceless beach walks with our family; it is two weeks I wouldn’t give up for anything in the world.

What made this year even more memorable was just witnessing how special this place is becoming to my kiddos.  I cannot describe how strange it is to watch my own children romp and play on the same sand that I played on at their age.  Perhaps it’s the true definition of ‘tradition’.  Whatever you choose to call it, I absolutely LOVE it, and cherish the opportunity to visit it year after year (thx D & T!!).

Anyways, I said I wasn’t going to gab this year.  Also this year I am going to resist the temptation to post a number of ‘artsy-fartsy’ pics.  I will do that under a separate post (or perhaps a separate blog?  Hmmmm ;) ).  This year, I will dedicate this post to a bunch of people-pics.  We got some great photos and below are just a few of the 450+.  Hopefully you enjoy them, and if you do you can head over to our Flickr account and find a few more.

And as an added bonus this year, Jen went ahead and created a little slideshow of some of her favorite pictures!  What’s more, she did it without any prompting or encouragement from me!!  (just makes me love her even more!)  I seriously need to think of adding her to the ‘oldweiler.com staff’.  I have taken the liberty of embedding her wonderful video below – so please watch and ENJOY!!

I feel as if we have already taken enough of your time.  Thank you soooooooooo much for reading this, and if we were able to take you all up to the cottage with you, we would!  We hope everyone is having the absolute best possible summer – and we hope to see each and every one of you soon!!!

All our best,

The Oldweiler Family

PS. Yes you can really get from your ‘bed to the beach in 60 seconds!’  Watch!

PPS. And ‘yes’, driving for 20+ hours tends to take it’s toll on the entire family.  CJ said ‘scrubby-dub-dub‘ for about 100+ miles during a stretch of Nebraska.  Although, I guess you can’t blame him – there’s not really anything else to do in Nebraska (ooooooh…did you hear that Tracy!?!  And just look at him work that Elmo in the video.  Wow.)
