Autumn Leaves

There I was…cleaning up the front yard for company, when this beautiful red leaf blew into my path. I just KNEW it had to be photographed so I ran inside to get my camera. Of course, the kiddos couldn’t resist helping, so they proceeded to bring me a couple of yellow leafs. Appreciating the lovely contrast, I spread them out on the ground and took a couple pics. I love this picture for no other reason than my children helped make it happen!

Given the fact that there are hundreds of seagulls flying around our cottage in Michigan – you might assume that means it would be easy to get a good picture of one. Well…you would be wrong! I took dozens of pictures of these guys flying around and most of them are blurry/off center/etc. This one was about as close as I could get to a ‘good picture’ – and I hope you like it

Well if it weren’t for that darn branch that got right in the way of this picture, I would say this cracks my ‘Top 10 Animal Pics’. Even still, the beauty of this duck is hard to ignore. From the brilliant green head, to the white collar, to the gorgeous feathers down his back – this guy has got it goin’ on. I took this picture during a rare ‘late-winter’ visit to the Denver Zoo.

Ahhhhhh…the absolute beauty that is Spring. I so enjoy walking around the yard each Spring, noticing the little changes that a day of sunshine and warmth can create in our yard. This year our lilac bushes continued to grow strong and produced a wonderful bouquet that can’t be beat. I snapped this picture of a bud on our largest plant that was once a tiny little stick, but now has grown almost taller than me.

I took this picture sitting on the deck at our cottage. The ‘girls’ had just returned from the nursery with loads of beautiful flowers…and these little marigolds just didn’t quite fit in the pots. Thankfully someone decided to put them in a little vase as they made my view even that much nicer.
As a side note, I cannot remember the last time our cottage was decorated with as many beautiful flower arrangements as it was this year. Everything is always so green (and beautiful) but it was just amazing to see all the other colors sprinkled around the deck. I am excited to see what they have in store for next summer!!

I remember seeing these big birds flying back and forth along the beach line in front of our cottage, but not giving it much thought. Not sure who, but someone said ‘there’s a bunch of eagles flying on the beach’. I grabbed my camera and went running – only to be surprised to see they were in fact vultures! And a bunch of them. Creeeeepy.

Snapped this one while walking up to our cottage from the beach. The floats were originally strung and placed by my Uncle, but I recently noticed they needed some repair. In 2007, I took it upon myself to ‘re-do’ the display and re-strung them along the bench. I really love this little addition to the bench and hope it lasts for years to come.

Sitting on the lower deck at our cottage with a glass of wine, I have to say I lucked out with this one…gorgeous sunset + sailboat + line of seagulls = AWESOME PIC.

During our 2nd honeymoon (10 years!), Jen and I were wandering around the ‘Wharf’ in San Francisco and just had to stop and grab some chocolate from Ghirardelli…honestly, you could smell this place from down the block! Highlight from this stop was the humongous chocolate chip cookie we picked up. Talk about amazing, it was 2″ tall in the center!! Mmmmmmmm

Who would have thought that a ladybug would be so photogenic?! But lo-and-behold, this little guy (girl?) was sitting on a blade of grass up by the frog stream just waiting to be photographed. Taking full advantage of her willingness to be pictured, I snapped away…and this was the best I was able to do.
